Dr Paul Reiss retiring December 2024

My Dear Patients,

I am retiring from active medical practice on December 20th of this year. I hope to get the chance in these last months to talk with you personally if I have not had the opportunity to say goodbye yet. It’s been a privilege and honor to care for you over the years. I am grateful that so many of you have put your trust in me, and in our dedicated and caring team of health care practitioners.

Some of you have been with me since I first started medical practice at the Fanny Allen Hospital in 1986, others since the early days of CHP Williston Family Health from 1990 to 2000 when it was just me, and still others since the start of Evergreen Family Health in 2002, when we became a totally independent and physician owned practice. At that time, we were 3 Doctors and a PA. I am so sincerely pleased and proud to be leaving my patients in the care of the dedicated and capable people of what has grown into one of the largest, highly respected, independent medical practices in Vermont, with 22 practitioners across two offices, including a robust Sports Medicine team.

We are fortunate to have recruited several terrific new practitioners over the past few years, and they are available to carry on your primary care. Many of you have switched to your new practitioner already. If we have not yet done that with you, we can discuss it at an upcoming appointment, or you can contact the office to work with my staff on a new assignment. If it’s time for a wellness or follow-up visit, I may be able to see you before the end of the year.

We have been through many challenges in our efforts to remain independent, and Evergreen will continue to be committed to that goal. We have tried to focus on our primary mission of improving the health and lives of our patients, and of our community. We have prided ourselves on offering accessible care outside of a large health care system, and at choosing the best testing and specialist options for you. Evergreen Family Health remains in a strong position for the future.

Patients and families have entrusted me with the care of their pregnancies, deliveries, newborns, and pediatric care, and I am especially grateful. Assisting in the birth of over a thousand babies in my career has been one of my most treasured honors. It’s been rewarding to see my young patients grow, and my adult patients age with me. The ability to care for whole families in the broadest and best way possible was my wish upon entering medical school many years ago. I am hopeful I have achieved that often over the past 38 years. I will miss our office interactions, but I leave with special and lasting memories of my patients and of the people with whom I’ve worked.

I plan to travel more with my wife, and visit family and friends, especially those with whom I’ve not been able to keep in touch. I look forward to spending more time with my 4 grandchildren, and will expand my time on the tennis court, golf course, slopes, and in the precious woods and mountains of Vermont and the Adirondacks.

Supporting several non-profit organizations is satisfying and rewarding work that I will continue. I plan to fill some limited transitional roles at Evergreen, and I’ll renew my ongoing efforts to contribute to improving health care in Vermont.

Please reach out to me or my office staff if you need assistance in making a smooth transition to a new practitioner at our office.

Best wishes in health and in life,

Paul J Reiss, MD
