Lyme Disease
It’s Lyme Disease prevention time again.
Lyme disease is caused by infection with Borrelia burgdorferi, a type of bacteria called a spirochete. The infection is transmitted by the bite of a black-legged tick, known as the deer tick. In most cases, an infected tick must be attached for at least 36 hours in order to transmit Lyme disease.
Do I need to be seen?
- In most cases, if the whole tick has been removed and was on for less than 36 hours, the answer is no.
- If you were not able to remove the whole tick or if it was on 36 hours or longer, then, yes you should call for an appointment.
We would like to refer you the Vermont Department of Health Website and/or the CDC website for more information.
